Kitchen 8 Hastings dining room wall with sailboat and elephant paintings and colourful chairs

A local kitchen, honestly run.

The story behind the teal walls and the weekly specials.

Jet has been cooking this foodhis whole life.

Kitchen 8 opened in a Hastings shopping strip in 2017, and not much has changed since. The same soups, the same welcome, the same owner behind the counter who knows your order before you've sat down.

The food comes from a Cambodian background, filtered through years of cooking Southeast Asian dishes that prioritise broth, freshness, and portion size over presentation. Jet runs the kitchen the same way most great cooks do: without ego.

The space.
